Perhaps the sun shone brighter,
Than it ever had, that morn.
Did the stars, that night,
Shine secrets of the dawn?
For now the grave is empty,
The stone is rolled away;
The off'ring of the Savior
Conquered death that day.
What love caused this great wonder,
The Holy One to come?
No oath to us had tied Him,
And yet He left his home.
Rags replacing glory,
Thorns to grace his head;
Blood speaks testimony
Of what our Savior did.
