I am blogging about life. Common life. Obviously, I have some experience in that subject. But not just common life...common life in an uncommon way.
What in the world does that mean?
I'll be very honest. I am a Christian. That's not a label, it's a calling, a way of life that requires one to be very uncommon. I no longer belong to this world, because I'm a pilgrim on my way home. Living with that eternal focus sets one apart, whether or not one wants to admit it. It permeates every part of your life, even the little things like washing dishes, talking on the phone, blogging, et cetera.
I am, by nature, quite goofy. You'll see a lot of *ahem* unusual (dare I say 'uncommon'?) twists on everyday life. But of course even that will be uncommon in the other sense. I'm striving to always keep this blog centered around the Ultimate Uncommon thing, that Christ died while we were yet sinners.
Of course, it's been a long journey from point A to point B...
This blog started out as 'Author In Training', a blog where I could post my 'writing discoveries'--writing tips, my own stories, book reviews, et cetera. Writing is still my big hobby, but gradually my focus has shifted in the blogging world. When my friend and I started up a blog specifically for everything related to writing, this blog began to...well, dare I say erode? It no longer became about what I could give other people. Instead, it became more about me: what I'm doing, how I'm feeling, why isn't anybody paying attention to me, so on and so on. That was about the time when I took a step back and realized I was headed in the wrong direction.
I'm hoping for my blog to be a picture into my life--my real life, my common life, not a glossed-up snapshot out of some magazine--in which I share what I've learned, ask you to share what you learned, and occasionally lament what I have yet to learn. Because it's all about what God is using to bring us closer to him.
That's a bit of what you'll see on my blog, and now here's some of what you won't see.
You won't see any profanity or immorality on this blog. I foresee that I will share my opinion on some controversial issues from time to time (look on my sidebar for the anti-abortion ad), but I will always do that in a respectful fashion.
I hope this blog will be a fun and uncommon place to visit for all of you!
