Yesterday

Well...Thursday was eventful...

A ballerina and I began rehearsing for our performance in May. It was fun, but I was a little nervous and not quite prepared. You see, I'm the kind of person who has to know the exact surroundings that they'll be in to be comfortable. I don't know why--I'm unique that way. So I was picturing that us and our teachers were going to meet in the ballet room, and then we were going to practice a little (I had never met her before). Well...I didn't expect playing in front of the whole ballet class!

Also, I had practiced the Sonatina very fast for the Sonatina Festival that will be coming up soon. However, Olive (which is what I'll call the ballerina, after one of my book characters) can't dance that fast. So I had to slow it WAAAAAAAAY down.

Don't get me wrong. I had a ton of fun, and I actually caught myself playing the Sonatina in my sleep (I'm not kidding, people. I was half asleep when I heard a drumming on my bed. I didn't realize that it was my fingers doing a run until a few minutes had passed). Also, Olive is exactly three days younger than me! And there's another girl who is 1 day older than me, and she looks like Erestor's age!

That was from 7 to 8 PM. Then, because our family only has one car, Mom, Luthien, Galdor, and I had to run and pick up Erestor and Dad from baseball practice. It was getting dark, and we were running out of gas.

To cut a long story short, we had an...eventful...stop for gas with 2 miles left in our tank. The attendant made Galdor throw up. Not on purpose, of course...he was just laughing too hard. And then we picked Erestor and Dad up way after dark.

But anyway...such is life.

Updates On Everything

Carpal Tunnel--I was de-junking my blog sidebar (did ya notice?) and for that I was clicking on the mouse a ton. Well, not a ton. It actually just took ten minutes, but I had to switch to my left hand for part of it because my right wrist was absolutely killing me. It's not as bad now, but it still kind of hurts. Not bad enough to type, of course!

Soccer--we had our first game of the season! And guess what? No one was expecting this...BUT WE WON!!! 5-1, or 5-2. The point is, we won, and both teams seemed to have a good deal of fun. That's what I like about our league--it's competitive in a friendly way. Oh, and one of the girls on my team knows Catherine Morland, who has been my friend since I was 3! It was hilarious, because the girl was jumping up and down and up and down as she talked to me. She's incredibly dynamic, and hilarious to watch. She scored a goal yesterday, too. :)

Writing--I have gotten out of a form of writer's block I was in. It's the kind where you can write a lot of other stories, but not the particular one you were working on. I just deleted a bunch of pages, and then tried it from a more interesting angle. It worked!

Prayer requests--a couple of my friends have Lyme Disease (please pray that they'll get better) and so they know a ton about it. A little while ago (couple of weeks, actually) I was talking to them, and I discovered that I've been showing symptoms, too. Some joint pain, eye twitching, headaches, stuff like that. So please pray that I don't have it. Thanks!

Sigh. Now I have to work up enough energy to tackle my math. AAAAARGHH! MATH!!

Literary Parents: Pros and Cons

I've had a discussion with a couple of my friends about parents of our main character (MC). There are good things about parents in your books, and there can be bad things. First, the good stuff.

1. Having good, helpful parents can be very un-cliche. In most books you'll find that the main characters are orphans. Examples are Eragon, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Fly by Night.

2. Sometimes, if a character has parents they are unfortunately portrayed in a very bad light, as in 'holding the character down' and stuff. It's a very bad stereotype, not to mention a lie. It's a mold that needs to be broken, and having good parents is the perfect way to do it!

3. Parents can provide another side to your MC. If your MC has a very strong relationship with their dad, it will be more touching if something happens to their dad. Therefore, your reader will feel more with your character.

Then the negatives.

1. Parents, as bad as it may sound, can tie down the MC. After all, it would be easier to have your character race around Washington DC with evil gangsters chasing them without having to wonder, 'And where are their parents?' Do you know what I mean?

2. It's more exciting for you MC to be orphaned. It adds another element. Without parents to protect and provide, your character is on their own.

3. You might feel more sorry for the character if their parents have been murdered by an evil organization.

I personally prefer to have parents in my books. In my NaNoWriMo novel, Elizabeth's mom and dad are divorced. (SPOILER--if you want to be surprised if you ever read my book, skip over this part) I'm planning on having them back together by the end of the trilogy. (END OF SPOILER)

Besides, my dad is my proofreader, and if my MC is anti-parent without reform, I might get a talking to! Jk, lol.

But seriously, when I'm a mom, I wouldn't really want my kids to read a book where the parents are depicted as a hindrance and 'holding the character down'.

Prayer Request!

Please pray for Morgan's friend; he's in a serious condition. Go HERE to read the specifics. Prayer works better than we'll ever know!

Thanks,

In place of my Writer's Daybook...

...I am doing this tag from Bleah Briann!

1.I'm not afraid to admit that I am not ashamed of the gospel.

2.I'm not afraid to admit that I honestly think that Obama is going to ruin our country.

3.I am not afraid to admit that I believe that abortion is murder. And therefore, it should be illegal.

4.I am not afraid to admit that I am a girl. And I am very proud of it.

5.I am not afraid to admit that I am SO not politically correct.

6.I am not afraid to admit that I believe in following the word of God.

7.I am not afraid to admit that I believe that God calls man to be the head of the family, and woman to assist him. Does that mean women are inferior? No! It means we are created for a different purpose. That's what makes us special! :)

8.I am not afraid to admit that I am homeschooled, because being homeschooled rocks!!

9.I am not afraid to admit that I still am a fan of Winnie the Pooh. Not Barney, though.

10.I am not afraid to admit that I don't date. I agree with Bleah Briann on this one! It's dangerous, not to mention pointless and perfect practice for a divorce.

11.I am not afraid to admit that I hate standing out. I work hard on not going with the crowd though, and I usually accomplish it whether or not I like it.

12.I am not afraid to admit that I hate being tall. Especially when I was about seven, when I was super tall for my age. I was so clumsy, and my motor skills hadn't caught up, and everyone laughed at me. :(

13.I am not afraid to admit that I am a health-nut. I'm sorry, but it's absolutely fascinating!

14.I am not afraid to admit that I got into a fistfight once. It was over bullying. I can truthfully say that the fight was a draw.

15.I am not afraid to admit that I love makeup. I hardly wear it though, because 1) I don't own any, and 2) wearing too much mascara for too long makes my eyes hurt.

BTW...American Legion went great! I know that I didn't qualify for States, but I didn't exactly want to do that, anyway.

A Most Interesting Tag from The Cornet Crazie!

I'm back! Obviously! Had a smashing time on vacation, but it was ruined when I got home because this font won't go off bold. Humph. lol.

1
. How many toes do you have?
Uh...let me think, here. Possibly...ten.

2. How many bones have you broken?
None. However, I have made up for it in sprained ankles.

3. Name an epic thing that you have done.
Played a soccer game on a sprained ankle, 'tore' the top off my toe playing soccer barefoot on asphalt, sung higher than Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, etc. I'm an epic klutz, too.

4. If you had a pet lemming, what would you name him?
Excuse my ignorance...but what is a lemming?

5. What color are the clothes you're wearing right now?
Navy sports pants with silver stripes running vertically, and my ultimate shirt! (meaning, my paint-splattered, stained, butterfly shirt from the Southern Shores) :)

6. How awesome are orca whales on a scale of one to ten?
Well...all of God's creatures are awesome...

8. How old do you want to be when you die?
Idk. Never really thought of that.

9. Name a pet peeve and an addiction.
Grr. Politically correctness makes me absolutely sick. That is why I hate studying the Civil War. Whenever I say that I'm a southern sympathizer I get called a racist. THAT is a prime example of racism right there, and political correctness, too. Was is RIGHT to tax someone extra because they weren't paying your price for your item?!? When one side of the country taxes the other dry to the other side's benefit...there's something wrong. And then saying they can't leave when they get fed up...now that is just cheap. Yes, both sides had faults (like slavery for Confederates, although that wasn't the main cause of the war UNLIKE some biased text books would have you think, and waging war on the woman and children of the South, like the Yankees), and I'm very sorry, but I'm a Johnny Reb. Actually, I'm a copperhead because I was born in Yankee territory. :)

Oh, and my addiction. WRITING!! Can ya guess? And LORD OF THE RINGS!!! YEEHAW! SHOW THAT MUMAKIL WHAT YOU CAN DO, LEGOLAS!

10. Write a paragraph detailing your life. 100 word minimum.
*ahem* I was, well, born. When I was five/six, I grumblingly took up piano, which would later become my hobby. Although I was a fairly slow reader at first, I fell in love with fantasy and writing at around age eight, and have been faithfully scribbling and banging out tunes ever since.

11. Name one thing that isn't really a secret, but that you haven't really gotten around to telling anyone.
I don't really like chocolate ice-cream.

12. Name another pet peeve.
People who think they know a lot, but they really don't. Seriously, there was one archery 'instructor' who once was telling me to do something that I already knew how to do, and then he went and strung the bows completely wrong. Then he started teaching a left-eyed kid how to shoot with my bow. Which is for right-eyed people. It was HILARIOUS!!!!

13. Sprechen Sie deutsch?
No, hablo Espanol, mucho gracias. A little.

14. Tell a joke.
I don't know any.

15. How many of the questions have you answered in a witty manner so far?
A couple.

16. Compose a haiku.

I don't write haikus.
I write epic poems.
Is that good enough?

17. Have you ever noticed how sour candies taste even more sour if you rub them on the side of your tongue?
No.

18. What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
'FotR'

19. How many doors are there in your house?
A lot.

20. How would you solve a problem like Maria?
BONK HER ON THE HEAD WITH A RUSTY SABER! No, not really. Blondies are incurable. Jk, lol. I wouldn't dare to insult a blondie, seeing as my three siblings have blond hair, and I myself am a blondie at heart.

21. Think of something about yourself. Anything. Go on, think of it.
Okay.

Now think of something more interesting. Write it down here.
The top of my right big toe has no feeling, because, well...I epically 'tore' if off in a game of street soccer.

22. What's wrong with your hands?
They're very thin, my fingers are, from exercising them about two hours a day.

24. What's your favorite show tune?
?

25. Okay, you can tell us what that first thing you thought of for number 21 was. We all want to know.
I do sign-language with my left hand, even though I'm technically right handed. I think it was because when I first learned the basics of ASL I didn't know that the teacher was doing a mirror-image of what I was supposed to do. So...I did it left handed. Which is fine with me.

That was a very interesting tag!

I tag anyone...

...who is absolutely driven bonkers by political-correctness!

Izori

P.S. Guess what! I get to do the 'American Legion' Air-Rifle Competition! It's kind of low-key, but it's the qualifier for States! Please pray that nothing terrible happens. Like, for my gun to work all right, and for me to get a score over forty on my standing target.

Thanks!

The road goes ever onward to vacation...

Yay! I get to go on vacation until Friday! We're leaving tomorrow (Saturday) I'm bringing my laptop, but it's doubtful if you'll see a post.

Goodbye!
