*sigh* Public Speaking. And dragons really existed.

My family does 4-H. And this year--guess what. We get to do Presentation Day. Where you go and talk, in front of judges, about something-or-other.

Yeah. Not my thing.

Until you add my topic, of course.

I think my topic will be 'Are Dragons Real?' And I will try to convince people that they actually WERE real.

BECAUSE THEY ARE!!! Or were. Whatever.

First of all, the word 'dinosaur' wasn't thought up until around the 19th century by an English dude. Not really a dude, I think his title was Sir. The word 'dragon' may very well have been the ancient/medieval word for dinosaur.

Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. His bones are tubes of bronze his limbs like rods of iron.
Job 40:15-18

His back has rows of shields tightly sealed together;

His snorting throws out flashes of light; his eyes are like the rays of dawn. Firebrands stream from his mouth; sparks of fire shoot out. Smoke pours from his nostrils as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds. His breath sets coals ablaze, and flames dart from his mouth.

Well...a creature with a tail like a cedar and limbs like iron. Sounds a wee bit like the diplodocus or apatosaurus, no?

And notice Job 41:17-21! This creature breathes fire!

The stories and references about dragons--Beowulf, St. George and the Dragon, the dragon emblem of China, the murals of the Native American Indians--are too wide spread to be made up.

Therefore, I believe that dragons--or dinosaurs--really did exist.

Sorry if I had a bunch of holes in my argument, it's time I should be in bed.

Mythological Creatures and all that good stuff!

I love putting mythological creatures in my books. So far in Songaia I have Elves, Centaurs, Fauns, Unicorns, and Nixies.

I think of Elves as taller than humans, with pointy ears, angular faces, and (I know this is strange) orange pupils. Their hair can be blond, silver, black, dark blue, or cinnamon colored, and their eyes are usually silver, blue, green, or pale gold. All Elves have some kind of magical power, and even though they aren't immortal, they do live much longer than humans.

My version of Nixies is that they're slightly smaller than human size, they're ears are usually fan shaped, and they have green or blue tinted skin. They have both gills and lungs, and are excellent ship builders. Their hands and feet are webbed, and they spend nearly all their time in the water. Eye color is usually gray, blue, green, or a coral pink, and their hair is mostly black or green, with a few streaks of other color throughout.

Centaurs in my book are just like the traditional centaurs. Just like a horse, except where the horse neck should be there's a human torso (accompanied by a human head, I would hope). Come in all colors and sizes.

Fauns are only mentioned in my book. I don't have a main character faun so I haven't given much thought to what they look like. But I've figured out that they at least have the lower half of a goat, tail of a donkey, and torso and head of a human.

Unicorns...well, they have one horn centered in their forehead, but pretty much other than that they look like regular horses.

Guns, Archery, and Stuff

Just got back from shooting guns tonight. I do that, and archery, through a local 4-H club called Trigger Time (I know, it's not the best name, but it's actually much less juvenile than it sounds :). If you ask me (don't bother, I'll just tell you anyway) I'd say I prefer archery. I'm one of the people who keeps on hoping that someday they'll find a way to get into this fantasy world, and what would be more useful then, gun-shooting, or archery? And archery's just so more...cooler. The guns make that 'bang' sound and they're really not that great for stealth missions. And I'd much prefer to wear an arm-guard, finger-tab, and quiver then a set of glasses. That get all foggy when it's hot out.
